“DONATION CAR”, SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL THRIFT STORE

I hoard books, paper material and magazines. A card stock that fits Goldilocks’ definition of “just right” is fools gold. I am excited by design decisions: color grading, negative space, and orientation. I love letters and the unique craftsmanship of typography. Memories of my brother in our childhood home’s garage, spray painting stenciled phrases on a crew neck he found in Goodwill, drove me into a deepdive of graffiti culture. It is an art form that is both fleeting and disdained. I love collections of things, whether it be buttons, pennies or rare books. Passion is the through line.

I treasure moments and hope to capture the ordinary, even if only a fly on the wall. I gawk over images published from Greg Girard’s archive of his adventures around the world. His photos speak so loudly about time, space, and action, unveiling the emotion he would experience and his situational perception. The images never feel forced or needing explanation. You see them, and feel without knowing what they mean or who the subjects are. I have the same affinity towards works by Joel Meyerowitz who captured the personalities of New York City. Joel was praised for his decisions of color and framing, and has the power to make life feel like something you sit and watch, and play again even when you’re tired of sitting.

Imagine mastering the art of making people feel. See and feel through sharing what you saw and how you see.

Magic.
